More from Maine.  We started the trip in Portland, walking everywhere from our room in Old Port, the historic waterfront district.

I read or heard somewhere that Portland has more restaurants per capita than any other US city, but can’t corroborate that fact. Even so, I’d have no trouble believing it. Restaurants, cafés, coffee shops everywhere. All looked good and the ones we tried were very good. The top photo was shot on our first breakfast at The Porthole Fountain. It was so good  we went back again the very next day.

Everything we had in The Porthole Fountain was top of the line. They ground their own coffee beans before making fresh pots for the bottomless cups I couldn’t stop drinking. I didn’t know it was possible to get good biscuits and gravy outside the South.

It is and theirs were most excellent. —->
