Speaking of tea, especially sweet tea, the chai served in Iraq is the sweetest I’ve ever had. When interacting with the local population, soldiers were often invited to have tea in their homes. This Iraqi hospitality naturally extended to the embedded media with the soldiers. My good fortune. There’s a thorough blog post on this from a soldier in Afghanistan explaining the tradition far better than I can. Worth reading. Essentially the same as Iraq.
